Polyurethane hybrid sealants go by many names, including Polyether, Silane-Terminated Polymer, Modified Silane Polymer, MS Polymer, or STP Polyether. While sometimes described as a “mixture” of silicone and polyurethane, hybrid sealants actually represent a unique chemistry with generally superior properties compared to either of these older technologies.
Hybrid sealants offer excellent adhesion to various surfaces, often without the need for primers. Unlike silicones, hybrid sealants are paintable and more cost-effective. Both silicones and polyurethanes may require primers in certain applications. Additionally, polyether sealants are known for their outstanding weatherability, making them a preferred choice in window installation, general construction, and the automotive industry.
